Boons are upgrades given by the gods to help Zagreus in his attempts to escape the underworld. They can be obtained as rewards for clearing a room marked with the respective god's symbol or purchased for 150 from Charon's shop. Boons only last for the duration of a run; they will disappear should Zagreus die and be sent back to the House of Hades.

More information on specific boons from each god can be found on their respective pages.
Equipping a keepsake given by one of the gods (except Hermes or Chaos) ensures that the next time a boon is offered, it will be from that specific god. It does not guarantee that the very next reward will be a god boon - only that, the first time one appears, it will be from that god. Chaos and Hermes boons can appear before any other god boon regardless of the keepsake you are using.
Slots[edit | edit source]
Zagreus' Attack, Special, Cast, Dash, and Call abilities have one boon slot, and cannot hold multiple ability boons.
For example, you cannot have both Aphrodite's cast boon Crush Shot and Dionysus's cast boon Trippy Shot. However, a god may offer to replace another god's ability slot Boon with their own. Exchanges increase rarity of the boon by one, keeping the level the same. In the above example, Dionysus may offer to replace your Epic Crush Shot (Rank 2) with Heroic Trippy Shot (Rank 2).
There are no other limits to how many other boons Zagreus can have.
Standard Boons[edit | edit source]
There are four 'standard' rarities of boon available, each more powerful than the last:
- Common
- Rare
- Epic
- Heroic
Heroic rarity is available through exchanging an Epic-rarity boon, choosing Ambrosia Delight from Eurydice, or from cultivating boons with Rare Crop from Demeter.
Boons that are rewarded from Erebus encounters, mini-boss encounters (both types are denoted with a small skull on the chamber preview) or bought at a higher price from Charon in the Temple of Styx are more likely to have higher rarities.
Special Boons[edit | edit source]
There are four types of special boons that are only offered after meeting certain requirements:
- Duo
- Legendary
- Chaos
- Bouldy
Special boon requirements include clearing a curse or acquiring specific standard boons. Special boons cannot be upgraded with Pom of Power.
- Duo Boons combine the powers of a pair of gods, and require Zagreus possess certain boons from both gods. They can be offered by either god, and trigger dialogue between the pair when obtained.
- Legendary Boons are top-tier blessings offering unique skills, and require Zagreus possess certain boons from one god. Each god has at least one.
- Chaos Boons require the player enter a Chaos Gate and overcome a curse before the boon activates. Unlike other boons, Chaos blessings can be taken more than once in a run, and effects stack. Chaos boons cannot be sold.
- Bouldy Boons require the player to converse with Sisyphus a number of times until he can 'speak' with Bouldy and gift him Nectar. Bouldy boons cannot be sold.
Trial of the Gods[edit | edit source]
In a room of Trial of the Gods, Duo Boons are not offered whether with the paired god or otherwise, although they may offer to exchange already obtained boons from the other god.

Theseus, the demigod son of Poseidon, God of the Sea, was resting in a small shack with his best friend, Pirithous, the demigod son of the great Zeus. The fire burning in the hearth kept them warm from the freezing snowy weather outside.
'I am glad that I have chosen the beautiful Helen. I am sure that when the time comes, she would be a beautiful and gentle bride,' said Theseus dreamily.
A few days ago, Theseus and Pirithous stole away the thirteen-year-old Helen of Sparta and sent her to stay with Theseus' mother, Aethra, until she has finally reached the right age to marry him.
They had done so because they have pledged to each other that each of them would carry off a daughter of Zeus and claim her as a bride. They had both come to the conclusion that since they were the sons of two great gods, they deserved every right to marry a daughter of the King of the Gods himself. As such, Theseus chose Helen, considering her to be the most priceless daughter.
'I would like to see you find a daughter more valuable than Helen, Pirithous. Unfortunately, there is none left,' he mocked.
Pirithous smacked his best friend on his arm.
'Do not forget, Theseus, that I am the son of Zeus! So watch who you're mocking!'
Then suddenly, an evil smile creeps up on his lips.

'Besides, I already have a particular daughter in my mind. And she is, of course, of far more value than your precious Helen!'
Theseus cocks an eyebrow in disbelief. He didn't think that there were any other daughter that was more greater than Helen, and thus refused to believe Pirithous' claim.
'Oh really? Who is it?'
The smile still plastered on his lips, he announces proudly, 'None other than the Goddess of Spring herself; Persephone.'
Theseus' eyes widen in shock, while Pirithous continues to look at him with the same proud and smug smile.
'Are you mad, Pirithous?' Theseus cries in disbelief. 'Have you forgotten that Persephone is already the consort of-'
He did not continue, fearful of saying the name of the fearsome God of the Dead.
Pirithous scoffed. 'Of course I have not forgotten, you fool. But that's what makes it even more interesting! It would be like hunting the Calydonian Boar, only this time, I am sure to win the prize!'
Theseus sighs. 'What makes you so confident that you'll actually get her?' How many casinos are in new orleans.
Pirithous lets out a laugh.
'Why would I not? Like I said, I am the son of Zeus, king of the Gods. I am particularly a member of the highest order in Olympus itself! Whereas Hades-'
'Don't say his name out loud!' Theseus exclaims in exasperation, not believing that his friend dare mock the name of Hades.

Pirithous ignores him and continues.
'-is the lowest of all the Gods. Look at him, forced to spend eternity in his dreadful Underworld. He must be a useless husband. I pity dear Persephone very much. Which is why I hope to save her from her misery, and give her the joy that Hades fails to offer.'
Then, he nonchalantly lies down on his back on the fleece blanket he was sitting on.

Theseus stares at him incredulously and shakes his head in dismay. As he lies down on his fleece blanket, he prays to the gods that Pirithous would have some senses knocked into him, before he suffers from dire consequences.

Unknown to the both of them, two pair of eyes were watching them from within the depths of the Earth, one now seething in utter rage.
